How to use dictionary
You can download free dictionary from
http://stardict.sourceforge.net/Dictionaries.php.
Extract the downloaded dictionary file to dicts folder of SD card.
The final folder structure looks like
SDROOT\dicts\dict_a\dict_a.ifo
SDROOT\dicts\dict_a\dict_a.idx
SDROOT\dicts\dict_a\dict_a.dict.dz
SDROOT\dicts\dict_b\dict_b.ifo
SDROOT\dicts\dict_b\dict_b.idx
SDROOT\dicts\dict_b\dict_b.dict.dz
...
Now you can the dictionary.

If you buy any
If you buy any dictonary, will be possible to install it in the Boox?
Boox can only support .dict
Boox can only support .dict format dictionary which they are all free to download.
Maybe some other dictionaries will be supported later but not now.
Dictionary won't work
I followed the instructions with an English dictionary from the website but the dictionary lookup stays empty no matter what I do. I tried firmware 1.1 and 1.2, tried moving it to internal flash, even renamed the dict and directory literally to dict_a. Nothing works.
It doesn't work
I've tried two English dictionaries:
- The Collaborative International Dictionary of English
and
- WordNet
but they both don't work in my Epub and PDF documents.
Can you please address this in an upcoming firmware release?

Dictionary doesn't work
Same to me. I followed the steps and download the free dictionaries. It didn't work. Just empty screen.
Also, inadequate manual to describe how to get it. Instruction manual has to be download from wesite and even so, not decribing how to get the dictionary work. Instead, one have to search in your Forum looking for answers. That's poor support services.
If it is free, why not preload it into your product before selling it.

It works for me
All dictionaries and translators work for me except Webster's. I got many free translators from http://xdxf.revdanica.com/down/index.php My firmware is 1.2.2 I followed the instructions above. The only problem I had initially that when I extracted dictionaries I did not notice that they automatically create one more directory. But when I fixed it, all dictionaries except Webster's work fine with my pdf books. Good luck!
Dictionaries
Could you please explain what you mean by "they automatically create one more directory". Is this a problem? Are all the dictionaries supposed to go into the same directory, dicts, or are they to be kept in separate directories?
Does anybody know whether the dictionary.dict file has to be compressed (dictionary.dict.dz) or can it be the uncompressed .dict file as well? My Boox with firmware 1.2.2 "sees" the dictionaries but not the words in them. It just flickers back and forth. Besides, sometimes the dialogue goes just above the word I would like to look up and there is no way to make it move in order to tap on the right word. I cannot move to the next or previous page either.
All in all, I am rather disappointed with the annotations and the dictionary features of the Boox -both how they work and the information available on how they are supposed to work.
I agree with some other comments in the forum that it would be much better if both features were directly accessible from the status bar.
